Unlocking / Unblocking: Not the same!
Mobile phone unblocking is different from unlocking. A blocked mobile phone is one that has been deactivated by the networks so that it can't be used at all. This usually happens when the mobile phone is reported lost/stolen by its owner. The owner of the mobile phone reports the incident to their own mobile network, who blacklist the phone by adding it to a UK database of stolen phones. All the networks co-operate to operate this blacklist, and therefore any phone reported stolen on one network, will not work with any network in the UK. This blocking or blacklisting process is carried out using the mobile phones IMEI number, and since this is hard coded into the hardware of modern mobile phones this cannot be changed easily. Even if it could it would attract a prison sentence of up to 5 years (under UK law).
Is Your Phone Locked or Blocked?
If your mobile phone is locked you'll be able to use it without any problems on at least one network. When you insert a SIM card froma different network you'll get a message like "Phone Restricted" and often have an option to "undo". If you get a "Phone Restricted" message, we can help you. Just choose your make and model and we'll send you a code to unlock it to any network.
Unlocking your mobile phone is perfectly legal (provided it is not against the terms of your contract). We can unlock your Nokia, Panasonic or Samsung phone from just £2.99

If your phone is blocked (or blacklisted) then you'll receive a different message and it won't work with any SIM card. If you put a SIM from some netowrks (including the UK's Orange or O2) in your mobile phone you'll get no reception (and on Nokia mobiles, a message saying "SIM card registration failed"). If you put in a SIM from other networks (including the UK's T-Mobile or Vodafone) the phone will appear to work normally until you try to make a call, at which point the call will drop and you'll hear a number of beeps.
Unlockia do not condone the unblocking of a blacklisted handset as this encourages and rewards mobile phone theft. We will not unblock any mobile phones and will report anyone who asks us to do so to the police.
