1. How do I unlock my phone with Unlockia's unlock codes?
You simply enter the unlocking codes into your mobile phone using the keypad. A message will then display informing you that your phone is unlocked. Full detailed instructions on how to enter the unlocking codes are provided in the email with your codes.
2. Can I use the same unlock codes on another mobile phone?
No. The unlocking codes are generated based on the IMEI number of your phone (among other things). Since this number is unique to the handset, the unlock codes generated for one handset will not work on another.
3. Will I still be able to use the phone with my current network once it's unlocked?
Yes! Your network won't even realise unless you tell them or return the phone to them. Networks will give you the unlock codes themselves, but they often charge in excess of £20 to do this. We'll send you your unlocking codes for just £2.99.
4. My phone is blocked/barred. Can you still unlock it?
No. If a phone is blacklisted so that it can't be used, it will not work on any UK network. It is illegal to try to unblock phones that have been barred in this way, so don't ask us. For more information see our page on "Mobile Unblocking".
5. Is unlocking a mobile phone illegal?
No, in the UK it's perfectly legal (although it may be against the terms of your contract so check first). Phone's are designed to be used on multiple networks, but the networks (or 'service providers') often lock mobile phones to their network before selling them. This "SP lock" enables them to effectively trap mobile users on their network and make more profit from them.
6. Can any mobile phone be unlocked?
No. Motorola phones, for example, can only be unlocked by the network and/or by Motorola. This also applies to many other phones, including some newer Nokias. We can only unlock the mobile phones listed on our site.
7. If I enter the unlock codes incorrectly can I keep trying?
No. You only get 5 goes at unlocking your phone. If you enter 5 incorrect unlock codes, your phone will become 'hard locked' and will then only be unlockable using special software and a cable. However, it will still operate normally on the original network.
8. How long do I have to wait for my unlock codes?
Normally we aim to respond within 24 hours but on rare occasions you may experience some delay. Most requests are honoured within a few hours.
9. My country isn't listed. Can you unlock mobile phones from outside the British Isles?
We can unlock mobile phones from many countries. If your country/network isn't listed then please contact us.
10. My phone is hardlocked - what does this mean?
You only get 5 (sometimes 3) attempts at unlocking your phone using codes. If you have entered codes previously that were incorrect, you will get a message "Cannot Undo Restriction" or "Not Allowed" when you enter any more codes (regardless of whether or not they are correct). If this happens to your phone it means your phone is 'hardlocked' and can only be unlocked using a clip. This is a hardware solution and requires that the handset be physically attached to an unlocking device. As such we cannot provide this service remotely. Many independent phone retailers will perform this service, although it is usually more expensive than a remote unlock.

Selling your mobile phone? Buying a locked mobile phone? Network operators charge up to £20 to unlock your phone and use another network. Our Remote Unlock service is cheap (almost free!) starting from just £1.99!!

Network operators lock your mobile phone to their network so that you can't change to another network (This is called an SP lock). We remove that lock, cheap as proverbial chips!

Why unlock your mobile phone?

The lock means you can't take advantage of cheaper prices on other networks, or use your old sim card in your phone. If you're travelling abroad, you can even buy a SIM card in the country you're in, use a local network and avoid paying extortionate roaming rates! Selling Your Mobile Phone? - you can get up to £15 more if you unlock the phone first.
